چکیده

549 Abstract: Ascites, being an accumulation of excess fluid within the peritoneal cavity, is most frequently encountered in patients with cirrhosis or certain other diseases such as congestive cardiac failure, peritoneal tuberculosis and some primary or secondary peritoneal tumours. This study included 17 patients (5 females, 12 males) with malignant ascites (MA) and 23 patients (13 females, 10 males) with nonmalignant ascites (NMA). We aimed to determinet the values for total sialic acid (SA), pH, cholesterol, fibronectin, total protein concentrations and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in ascitic fluid for the differential diagnosis of ascites.

Ascitic Fluid Analysis for the Differentiation

The authors tried to differentiate malignancy-related from nonmalignant ascites with a sequence of sensitive followed by specific ascitic-fluid parameters. There were four results of this study. First, of nine parameters investigated in a first series of 48 patients, 28 with nonmalignant and 20 with malignancy-related ascites, ascitic-fluid cholesterol and fibronectin yielded the best negative ...

Total discrimination of peritoneal malignant ascites from cirrhosis- and hepatocarcinoma-associated ascites by assays of ascitic cholesterol and lactate dehydrogenase.

No laboratory test completely distinguishes malignant ascites (MA) from ascites associated with cirrhosis and (or) hepatocellular carcinoma (A/C-HC). Ascitic cytology is highly specific but has a diagnostic sensitivity of only 40-60%. We determined 11 ascitic analytes and cytology in 58 patients with cirrhosis, 15 with hepatocellular carcinoma, and 21 with MA (10 ovarian cancers, 4 mesothelioma...

Sub-acute Exposure to Benzene Accelerates the Aging Process of Red Blood Cells; an In vivo Study

Background: The well-known toxic effects of benzene toxicity are bone marrow depression, reduction in blood cell counts, and induction of leukemia and aplastic anemia. This study was designed to evaluate biomarkers of aging in red blood cells (RBCs). Methods: Mice were exposed to benzene (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg/day) orally for 28 days. A group of benzene-exposed mice were injected intraperiton...

Sialic acid value in pleural effusion as a diagnostic marker of malignancy.

In differential diagnosis of pleural effusions, cytology is the most sensitive method. Since cytology findings are positive in half of such fluids, combined use of reliable tumor marker and cytology is a logical approach. Sialic acid and other tumor markers can be reliable substances associated with neoplasia. The present study measured sialic acid levels in pleural effusion and serum samples o...

The Interventional Effect of Dry Cupping Therapy and Creatine Supplementation on Lactic Acid, Lactate Dehydrogenase and Creatine Kinase in Plasma Following Wingate Anaerobic Test in Male Handball Players

Introduction: Optimum recovery can prevent the athlete's functional capacity from falling between training sessions or competitions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dry cupping therapy and creatine supplementation on lactic acid, lactate dehydrogenase and plasma creatine kinase following the Wingate anaerobic test in male handball players. Method: In this quasi-experimental...
